THE LOVE OF MY LIFE
© Gary aka Cyberstud

Once there were visions of love in the air
The girl that I met was so young and so fair
Her beauty encompassed the view all around
I was frequently thankful for the love I had found

We shared life together and were always a pair
We walked hand in hand as we went everywhere
I gazed in her eyes and knew I belonged
She loved me so much I could never do wrong

I asked her to marry and be my sweet wife
To join me for now and the rest of my life
I reached in my pocket and pulled out a string
And suddenly surfaced her engagement ring

She laughed and she cried as she looked up at me
Darling I’ve longed for this moment to be
I’ve shared every moment of your daily life
And now I can see it as your loving wife

Our wedding was joyous for me and my love
Our union was blessed by the heavens above
She walked down the aisle with such a smooth stride
I couldn’t imagine a more beautiful bride

We experienced passion on our honeymoon
Which started so quickly and ended too soon
Two weeks of loving, the smiles and grins
Then honeymoon's over and life now begins

We learned things about us that we did not know
We hoped that this knowledge would help our love grow
My constant companion was always right there
My every adventure I now loved to share

Our differences grew though slight at the first
The bickering started and then became worse
The girl who was pure and so perfect for me
Now burdened my life and caused misery

She tested my limits and always knew best
She turned out to be just like all of the rest
I thought we were perfect like in a love song
I was always right, but now I was wrong

We talked about things unimportant to us
Just covering up not to cause a big fuss
Small things would annoy us and cause us regret
Of the days we were younger, when we had first met

She's out with her friend now, third time in this week
Her friend who does listen when she tries to speak
Her friend will advise her and tell her she's right
Hoping to prevent an unwarranted fight

I see my wife less as the years now go by
With my head in my hands I just sit home and cry
Can the hurt be more painful on my trying heart
As I fight now to save what I can on my part

She's talking of leaving though never to me
She says that she needs the time off to be free
The couple so perfect no longer is found
The wife that I wanted is never around

Days will go by with me all alone
Drinking and drinking until I get stoned
Depression sets in as I think of my life
And how I once had the most wonderful wife

Then just at that moment she enters the room
And says that she missed her sweet loving groom
She says that her time was not too well spent
The freedom she wanted was not what she meant

She wanted her lover that she had first met
Before all the fighting and without the regret
She said that she couldn’t just leave and not try
And let such a marriage just crumble and die

She rushed to my arms and held me so tight
And said that she wanted to love and not fight
My arms slowly held her as first very light
Then firmly did grab her and held her all night

The dawn’s early shadows came into the room
And lighted the face of the bride and the groom
A love that had dwindled from being a lot
Had kindled all night and was now burning hot

We knew we’d not fail in our loving attempt
We’d captured the moment that we had first dreamt
Of long life together without more regret
The love of my life who again I’d just met
