THE COST

When the heart doth bleed for echoes lost,
We give our souls and rue the cost.
When the mind is bound in endless mire,
We wonder where went passion's fire.
When shadows cast upon the wind,
Our pain is thought to never mend.

Why love, when love is bitter pain?
Why yearn and care when all seems vain?
We cry in sadness and in fear,
And yet, let fall just one more tear.
Alone and lost we spend our time,
Our friends momentos of our prime.

Where life was full, now live instead,
Regrets of words we never said.
How will the heart be fed by light,
While seeking only through the night?
You must, 'tis said, be true to you,
But where is truth when all seems blue.

Yet seek our hearts for some desire,
With tangled thoughts led by its fire.
Oh, where the ones we think we hold,
When thoughts are really far too bold?
When the hand doth open to reach out,
What comes back is fear and doubt.

We search our minds and deep within,
We find the power we need to win.
Though, our fear be that we're weak,
We find the light we need to seek.
For stars look down and up we must,
Or, life will pass and we'll be dust.

So, when the sun shines on the earth,
Our hearts can glory in rebirth.
To find the thing we're looking for,
And then, keep looking evermore.
