Photography - Grand Canyon, Arizona 1982 - 1987
I have been to the Southeast Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park
5 times. Every time I went I took pictures. The first time I was there
was in the fall of 1982. We were moving from Illinois to southern
California. It was hot in the desert until we reached Flagstaff, Arizona
where it was very cold. I was fascinated by the forests of aspens
and piñon trees. I had never seen either before. I had never been
so far west and I was on an adventure of discovery the whole trip.
The southeast rim of the Canyon is in Arizona. What you see across
the canyon is Utah. The Canyon is over 200 miles wide at this point
in the park.
I lived in Phoenix, Arizona from 1986 to 1988. Everyone in the family
who came to visit wanted to see the Grand Canyon. I told them it was
just a big hole in the road. *grin* The last time I went was in August
1987 when I took my mother and daughters. We left Phoenix a sweltering
112ºF and it was snowing when we reached the mountains in Sedona.
My mother took a ton of pictures of snow in August. By the time she
realized there was no film in the camera it wasn't snowing anymore.
