Some people call these locusts. Where I grew up.... we called 'em jarflies. They make a terrible racket. They shed their skin in June and come out all fragile and colored pale green for a day or so and then they turn color to what you see here. This photo was a bit close, but he didn't feel like hanging about to pose just for my camera. I can't imagine why.
