Some of my first memories are of being taught to make things from
the ideas I had. When I was 7, my grandmother taught me to sew a dress
on an old treadle sewing machine. She also taught me to sew it using
the ideas I had of the perfect dress, instead of using a pattern of
someone else's ideas. I became fascinated with creating things no
one had ever seen before.
Making something from an idea is called creation and it is the basis
of design. Some people consider creation the act of building something
from nothing. I consider ideas to be the greatest resource mankind
possesses. Ideas are a treasure trove of wonder and magic. Our toys,
our cars, our homes and our computers, all of these came from ideas.
So while ideas may not be seen by all, they are an infinite resource
to the creation of just about anything the imagination can dream of.
